On Sunday, October 17th, members of Silicon Valley SMART Recovery® Friday night group sponsored their second annual picnic. It was an opportunity for members of different SMART groups of the San Francisco Bay Area to meet and expand their contacts, and for families and friends of the members to meet and socialize. While last year's picnic attendees were primarily the members of the Friday evening meeting held at Valley Medical Center, this year there was participation by members from other Santa Clara County groups as well as members from Hayward and Fremont.
The picture shows them at Vasona Park in Los Gatos. The picnic area has a small lake which was used by some of the members who brought three boats which were dubbed "the SMART Yacht Club." There was enough food to feed a small army, the pigeons, and numerous small, harmless, flying beasties which didn't eat much. The beasties kept one member busy the whole time trying to fan them away. Even though everyone did their best to eat up everything in sight, there were plenty of leftovers. The most popular food items seemed to be the smoked salmon, the deviled eggs, and the home made brownies.
The success of this event has led to consideration of another picnic in the coming year, possibly in the spring. Thanks to all who attended and helped out this year with setup, holding the tables, sharing of food, and cleanup activities.
